Local Councils Hear About Public Transit Needs

Last Year the Nova Scotia Department of Culture, Communities and Heritage commissioned a study into public transit needs of the South Shore.

The findings of that report are now ready and being shown to regional councils from the region.

Stewart Frinck, Chair of Citizens for Public Transit is the one giving the presentations, he said there was one common theme they heard- “People want to live where they live, and we need to find transit solutions that make that safe and feasible.”

He says that providing accessible transit options for an ageing population was one of the more common requests.

Frinck has already given his presentation to the Town of Lunenburg. Next up he will present for the District of Lunenburg (Feb. 25) then the Town of Mahone Bay (Feb. 27) and finally the Town of Bridgewater (Mar. 9)

While each community has different transit problems Frinck hopes the various local governments can collaborate. ” I hope that the four councils we’re presenting for can come together to find solutions, a collective approach offers more solutions.”
