Over the years I’ve heard so many people talk about their favourite restaurants that no longer exist.
Especially the restaurant in Zellers department stores.
The other department stores had some pretty good restaurants in their time – Kmart and Woolco to name a couple.
As a teen in Dartmouth, we had a couple of small hole in the wall restaurants on Portland Street that we would frequent.
But I think my alltime favourite was Ponderosa in Bedford. The food was just OK, but the dining experience was unlike anything else I had ever seen.
Standing in line to place your order, moving through the line, getting your steak, then all the sides and the serve yourself salad bar.
But the best part was the Make Your Own Sundae bar!
When I heard that they were closing the Ponderosa in Bedford we made a special trip just to let the girls experience that Make Your Own Sundae! They’ve never forgotten it.
What restaurants do you miss?
