A rally by long-term care workers in Cape Breton Wednesday could be a taste of things to come.
CUPE members are planning to be out in force from noon to 2 p.m. Wednesday, stationed near the roundabout as you exit the Canso Causeway.
“We’re heading into conciliation on Thursday and Friday to try to get a deal for long-term care workers and this is just a precursor of what could happen if we don’t get a deal,” long-term care co-ordinator Tammy Martin told Acadia News earlier this week.
“So, we need government to pay attention that these workers are fed up and they’re ready to take action.”
The government’s latest offer is a three per cent pay increase in 2026, followed by two per cent a year for the next three years.
Martin said the union would like to see a $5 per hour increase to follow recent negotiations in New Brunswick and Prince Edward Island.
