South Shore Kids Triathlon Cancelled Due To Low Registration, Pool Upgrades

A popular kids event in Bridgewater has been cancelled this year.

The organizing committee of the 2019 South Shore Kids Triathlon has chose to skip the July 1 competition due to low registration and ongoing work at the O’Regan’s Subaru Outdoor Swimming Pool.

Recreation Coordinator, Diana Johnson, says they explored changing locations.

“The LCLC is closed for the July 1 holiday. It would have been somewhat expensive to try and open the facility for just a few hours to do the triathlon.”

Johnson says they also thought about rescheduling or changing the event to a duathlon.

“Do we want to jeopardize the success of the triathlon over the last 16 years? And we thought if we switch to duathlon, would it have adverse effects on a successful 2020 triathlon?”

She says roughly 40 people were registered, half of what is normally entered for the triathlon.

Despite the setback, Johnson says they fully intend to hold the event in 2020.
