Lunenburg County Fitness Centre to close this week

The Lunenburg County Fitness Centre in Bridgewater is closing its doors for good at the end of April.

In a statement to members, owner Jody O’Donnell, along with their team, said the decision comes after nearly nine years of operation. Despite building a facility they described as one of the best in Nova Scotia, complete with high-end equipment, fitness classes, accessible amenities, and even an attached Supplement King franchise, membership numbers have not been high enough to sustain the business.

“We had hoped to partner with the local YMCA or the Lunenburg County Lifestyle Centre to strengthen fitness and wellbeing opportunities in the community, but regrettably, that did not happen,” the statement read.

The fitness centre opened in 2016 and survived major challenges, including the COVID-19 pandemic, but owners said it became clear in recent months that continuing was not financially viable.

The centre emphasized that anyone who has prepaid membership dues past the closure date of April 30 will receive a refund, and staff are available to assist with that process.

Members should also clear out lockers and remove any personal belonging before they close for good on April 30.

The owners thanked all members, past and present, for their loyalty and support, calling it an “honour and privilege” to serve the community.
