Lunenburg increase taxi rates

The Town of Lunenburg has approved changes to the town taxi by-laws that will see rates increase.

The primary rate used for trips within town limits increased by $2 to a new flat rate of $7. The cost for additional passengers also increased to a new rate of $2.80 per person.

The maximum price for a fully-occupied taxi doing a trip within town limits is now $14.

Those rates apply for normal hours which run from 8:00 a.m. to midnight, any trips outside of normal hours cost double.

The move came in response to local taxi operators that wanted to charge higher fares in response to rising fuel costs.
