Lunenburg port of entry remains closed

Prior to the pandemic international travelers could disembark in Lunenburg and complete all the necessary steps to enter Canada, however that service was stopped during the pandemic and has yet to resume.

At the time the Canada Border Services agency cited staffing issues and a lack of demand due to international travel restrictions as the reason for the closure of the port of entry.

On Monday, a cruise ship that had a scheduled visit to Lunenburg had to dock in Yarmouth where passengers disembarked and completed the required steps to enter the country, after which they bussed to Lunenburg.

Additionally in the summer, Lunenburg welcomes many yachts from international travelers who would often anchor their vessels in the harbour then head into town for various excursions.

Now, with the pandemic easing and most travel restrictions being lifted, questions are being raised on when it will reopen.

Border Services Canada did not respond to our request for comments on their plans for the Lunenburg port of entry.
