Lunenburg Receiving Funding From Provincial Program

The province has announced significant funding to five tourism sites to enhance visitor access and experiences as well as motivate people to travel to Nova Scotia.

The town of Lunenburg will receive $750,000 for their waterfront through the new Tourism Revitalization of Icons Program.

“These iconic tourism sites attract travellers from around the world and it’s important we do all that we can to ensure they have exceptional experiences once they are here,” saidBusiness Minister Geoff MacLellan in a news release. “These investments will create more opportunities for private sector tourism operators and help keep our sector growing.”

The plan is being implemented by Crown corporation Tourism Nova Scotia, which government says will quickly begin working with partners to identify the best plan for each icon site.

“These tourism icons help differentiate Nova Scotia from other travel destinations,” said Michele Saran, CEO of Tourism Nova Scotia. “They are recognized nationally and internationally and deliver the unique and authentic Nova Scotia experiences visitors look for.”

Money has been set aside for the next three years for the projects.

Peggy’s Cove is receiving the most at $2 million.

Other areas on the list to receive funds include the Halifax Waterfront, Cabot Trail, and Annapolis Royal.

We have reached out to Lunenburg Mayor Rachel Bailey for comment.
