Lunenburg is no longer feeling the effects of Hurricane Dorian.
The Lunenburg Wastewater Treatment Plant has returned to running at full capacity after the final repairs were made to the UV disinfecting system last week.
The treatment plant had been under repair for almost two months after being flooded and damaged by Dorian.
Mayor Rachel Bailey says the cost of repairs is just over $130,000, and where that money will come from is not yet known.
“We’re not sure where that fits as far as insurance coverage and whether or not there will be any relief from the province in respect to those costs, but that is what we’ve had to lay out at this point,” she said.
Flood waters had breached the facility, damaging the equipment running the treatment system and leaving the wastewater to run into the Lunenburg harbour.
Bailey said much of the delay in getting things running was due to waiting for parts, but the plant is now fully functional.
She said it will also see a large overhaul and upgrade in the future.
“The pre-design work that were looking to have done will have to include some mitigating preparations,” she said.
“I don’t know what that looks like exactly, but we do have some plans in place should something happen in the meantime.”
