MacKay Bridge to close all weekend for toll removal

A heads up if you are going to be crossing the harbour this weekend.

The MacKay Bridge will be closed to all traffic Friday at 7 p.m. until 5:30 a.m., Monday as crews work on removing the toll booths.

Halifax Harbour Bridges says to plan ahead and use alternate routes.

There will be extra patrols in place.

HHB says further work will be required but it is unlikely they won’t need to shut the bridge down on the weekend for about another month.

Making the harbour spans toll free was part of Premier Tim Houston’s campaign promise.

The tolls have already been removed from the Macdonald Bridge.
