The Town of Mahone Bay is looking to get information to their residents quickly.
The town is planning to use CodeRED, a mass notification system that will send out messages to people by phone, email and text.
Mayor Dave Devenne says they chose the program after several power outages last fall left people scrambling for information.
“And then when you look at that and you see the number of different ways that people communicate, we needed a system that will enable us to talk to all those different media opportunities at the same time.”
Devenne says people can receive emergency alerts or non-emergency messages from the town or choose to opt out and not receive anything.
“It may be an emergency situation, it may be a social situation or it may be notification of a town meeting. It is going to increase and enhance the awareness of citizens for what’s happening in the town.”
The town is targeting the end of August to get CodeRED up and running and is spending $1,500 to use the program.
People can download the CodeRED app on their cell phones, sign up online or go to Mahone Bay town hall and get staff to assist you.
