Mahone Bay Medical Centre temporary closed due to mercury spill

The Mahone Bay Medical Centre is temporarily closed after an old blood pressure machine containing mercury was accidentally dropped and broken during removal last week.

Nova Scotia Health says no one was injured, but the spill required cleanup and repairs, which have been delayed by winter weather. The cleanup company worked over the weekend, and officials hope to provide an update on reopening within the next week.

In the meantime, in-person appointments are being relocated to clinics in Lunenburg and Bridgewater.

Patients with existing appointments are being contacted directly, and those looking to book an appointment can call the clinic at (902) 624-8373 or reach out via email.

Staff will continue to monitor messages during the closure for updates and scheduling.
