Major Fire At Lumber Plant In Weymouth

Fire has heavily damaged a lumber plant in Digby County.

The blaze broke out at Lewis Moulding on Fort Point Road in Weymouth North just after 6 p.m.

According to Dahl Dispatch and Firefighters of Nova Scotia, 22 fire departments from Digby, Yarmouth, Annapolis and Queens were called in for mutual aid.

Crews were still on scene as of late this morning looking for hotspots.

RCMP Media Relations Corporal Chris Marshall says there were no injuries.

“Everyone that had been working in the business at the time had already evacuated. The fire is believed to have started in an area where the business stored dry lumber,” said Cpl. Marshall.

He says the fire is not believed to be suspicious.

Lewis Mouldings has been a family-owned business for over 50 years, and are the largest user of Eastern White Pine in Nova Scotia.
