A man charged in the largest wildfire in Nova Scotia’s history will be sentenced this spring.
Twenty-three-year-old Dalton Clark Stewart of Villagedale, Shelburne County pleaded guilty to one charge under the Forests Act, leaving a fire unattended when it’s not completely extinguished.
It’s in relation to the 2023 Barrington Lake wildfire, which burned dozens of homes and structures.
He’ll be sentenced on that charge on May 7 in provincial court in Barrington.
Stewart pleaded not guilty to two other charges, including lighting a fire on privately owned land without permission.
It’s been over a year since the province laid the charges against Stewart following an investigation of the fire.
