A listener writes in with this dilemma:
My wife and I have several grown kids in their twenties living at home with us. I think that they should be paying for their own extra expenses like their cellphones, movies, memberships at the gym, while my wife says they should get a reward for being great kids. As I mentioned, they are in their 20’s and I think it’s time to stop giving them a sense of entitlement. I keep worrying about our retirement and how all this money going out for frivolous things is going to come back to bite us. Having said that, I’ve not seen any of the kids acting like they’re entitled to the extras. Should I let my wife enjoy giving them the extra things or should I be the “mean old man”?
