Meet The Candidate: Steve Hirchak

Steve Hirchak is running for the Green Party in the riding of Shelburne.

Hirchak has a background in sales, over 30 years of experience teaching martial arts and describes himself as an environmentalist.

He said his constituents are most concerned about the healthcare crisis.

“We do obviously have to invest money in getting health professionals here, but we try to take an organic approach to healthcare in that we need to make sure that people are getting fitness, we need to take stress out of their lives, we need to make sure their eating healthy,” explained Hirchak.

He said the Green Party wants to create medical clinics but as a long term goal, he believes that we need a holistic approach where people are living healthy lives in healthy communities to help mitigate the healthcare crisis.

He also explained that the ongoing climate crisis needs to be addressed.

“We are anticipating electrical outages that could into last days or weeks and the droughts may be providing food shortages,” said Hirchak. ” Those are some of the things that we have to look at investing in how to mitigate and make people suffer a little bit less when these weather events do occur.”

Hirchak also said that to tackle housing issues his party would like to invest in social housing.

“We believe in co-op housing,” explained Hirchak. “That’s a very good solution to cut the costs of day to day for people.”

He said the Green Party wants to invest in those who have large homes that may want to add apartments or rooms to their existing homes.

Hirchak is running against Liberal candidate Penny Smith, NDP Darren Stoddard and PC candidate Nolan Young in the riding of Shelburne.
