Mitton Sets Sights on World Championships

The push to the World Championships is on for Sarah Mitton.

The 23 year-old shot put athlete from Brooklyn, Queens County is preparing for six weeks of competition and training ahead of the Worlds in Qatar at the end of September.

Mitton is coming off a sixth place finish earlier this month at the Pan American Games in Peru.

She says she’s looking forward to putting in the time.

“This is something I’ve been working towards for years now. Your expectations are always high but I came out and qualified for three team Canada teams and those are the positions you want to be put in for the experience you need.”

Mitton is off to Germany this week for a series of competitions and then Spain for training camp.

She is hoping to achieve an Olympic standard throw of 18.5 metres, which would help her be considered for next year’s Tokyo games.
