Mitton through to Finals at Commonwealth Games

Brooklyn native Sarah Mitton has qualified for the finals in women’s shotput at the 2022 Birmingham Commonwealth Games.

During the Tuesday morning Athletics session, Mitton qualified with her first throw, which went for 18.24 metres.

That throw was enough to automatically put her through to the finals, and as such, she did not use her other two throws. It also was the furthest throw recorded in Mitton’s qualifying group.

Only one competitor has thrown further at the Commonwealth Games with Jamaican Danniel Thomas-Dodd recording a throw of 18.42 metres in Qualifying Group B.

The finalists, of which there are 12 will compete in the finals Wednesday, August 3 at 4:00 p.m. (AST).
