A Lunenburg County fire department is growing.
An application to expand the Riverport and District Fire Department has been approved by the Municipality of the District of Lunenburg.
There was no written or in-person opposition to the expansion during recent public hearings.
Mayor Carolyn Bolivar-Getson says she’s not surprised by the requested change.
“I guess, as I look throughout the communities we have had a lot of fire departments that have expanded and a lot who have had to expand to accommodate the size of the trucks today. It’s not uncommon to see that.”
Changes will have to be made to municipal planning documents to accommodate the expansion.
The fire department also provided the municipality with a flood mitigation plan before moving forward.
