Mooseheads fire Midgley, Heelis after first round sweep

The Halifax Mooseheads have fired Head Coach Jim Midgley.

The move comes after Halifax were swept by Bathurst in the opening round of the playoffs.

Assistant coach Liam Heelis was also let go.

In a statement, General Manager Cam Russell said after lengthy discussion with ownership, the team has decided to move in another direction behind the bench.

Owner Sam Simon says it was a tough decision, but the right one for the organization.

They say the search for new coaches will begin immediately.

Midgley re-joined the organization at the start of the season after spending two years as an assistant coach with the New York Rangers.
