Another chunk of federal cash is supporting the restoration of Lunenburg Academy in its 125th anniversary.
Member of Parliament for South Shore – St. Margaret’s, Bernadette Jordan, recently announced $500,000 towards phase two of the Lunenburg Academy Exterior Restoration Project.
The Town of Lunenburg will receive the money over two fiscal years including $200,000 this year and $300,000 in 2020–2021.
The money will go towards painting the front facade of the building.
Jordan says she’s excited to see improvements made to the “Castle on the Hill.”
“Two years ago we announced $1-million to do the other side and now we’re going to finish up the job. It’s a great announcement for Lunenburg and it’s great for the Academy because heritage is so important to us.”
The town is restoring, repairing and re-purposing the building to turn it into a community cultural centre and creative hub.
Classrooms are being rented out to tenants working in the arts and heritage sectors.
The national historic site opened in 1895.
