Mural contest for Nova Scotian artists

The Antigonish Public Art Program is calling on Nova Scotian artists for submissions.

The artwork is to commemorate history such as the 2026 mural theme that celebrates the centennial anniversary of the town taking ownership of its electric utility.

Antigonish Culture Alive (ACA), Arts Coordinator Cassie MacDonald tells our newsroom that art has an amazing way of bringing the community together.

“When you visit a place with public art, you’re getting away from just the concrete or the buildings and you’re getting a little piece of the history of the town [and] the people who live in that town,” she says.

“[It] brings the story of a town to life through large public art installations.”

She adds the fourth annual mural installation helps with the beautification process of the town.

Both professional and emerging artists are encouraged to submit their renderings.

The Town and ACA say preference will be given to Antigonish Town and/or County residents and diverse minorities are encouraged to apply.

The application deadline is November 1st.

You can find the details to apply on their website.
