The province is reporting Nova Scotia has passed the peak of the sixth wave of COVID-19.
However, the number of deaths and hospitalizations has climbed since the last update on the virus.
Nova Scotia is reporting 24 new deaths. That’s a big jump when compared to last week when there were 13.
“The data this week on PCR-confirmed infections suggest the peak of the sixth wave is behind us,” Deputy Chief Medical Officer of Health Dr. Shelley Deeks says in a news release. “While the increase in hospitalizations and deaths is not unexpected, they are not insignificant, either. Behind each of these 24 COVID-19 deaths is a family grieving an incalculable loss. It is those families and those loved ones that we should keep in mind. That’s why we get vaccinated. That’s why we wear a mask. That’s why we stay home when we’re sick.”
There are also 91 new hospitalizations and 5,436 new PCR-confirmed cases in this week’s summary of the seven-day period ending April 25th.
Public Health says it began data reporting on the sixth wave this week with a start date of March 1, 2022.
