Our province’s MLAs have asked Nova Scotia MPs not to support the upcoming carbon tax hike.
Finance minister Allan MacMaster brought forward the unanimous consent motion.
“All members of the Nova Scotia Legislature call on Nova Scotia MPs to vote in the best interest of Nova Scotians by standing up against an increase in the carbon tax,” said MacMaster.
MPs will vote on a motion Wednesday calling on the Liberals to immediately cancel the carbon tax increase.
The 3.3 cent per litre hike on fuel is scheduled for April 1, an increase of 23 percent.
The unanimous consent motion from the Progressive Conservatives got all-party support in the legislature.
Liberal opposition leader Zach Churchill said last week that Nova Scotians can’t afford another increase right now.
But he added Premier Tim Houston needs to negotiate a better deal with the federal government on carbon pricing.
