N.S. NDP leader says plan needed to tackle rising costs

Nova Scotia’s NDP leader says costs are continuing to skyrocket.

As the legislature is set to open, Claudia Chender says a plan is needed.

She says they want to help people where they need it most.

“We are looking for a school food program, which was promised and we still haven’t seen. We’ll also be looking for relief from fees that Nova Scotians have to pay all the time,” said Chender.

Chender says she’s hoping the upcoming budget can help people access to emergency and primary care in their communities.

“We want to understand how this government is going to make sure people can afford the basics.”

She adds that over half of people in the province are living in energy poverty.
