Well I am guilty and this will be a hard habit to break!
It does make sense to not hang the towel there, but still. I think the idea is often that the warmth from this appliance will help keep the towel dry, but this in a huge fire hazard! Especially if you should happen to get fat on the towel… The kitchen hand towel, or dish cloth should NEVER hang on the oven door handle!
If You Have a Towel Hanging on Your Oven Door, Move It ASAP
Obviously no one has told the towel makers that is a no no since there are many products that are promoting towels on oven doors, haha.

The other advice that was offered around kitchen fire safety is to always have a fire blanket close by.
