Never Put Things In A Place You Won’t Forget – You Will!

This is an embarrassing story to tell, but if it helps just one of you not lose important things it will have been worth it.

Back over the Christmas break, my wife and I decided to steam clean the carpets in the house, which meant moving furniture.

Now, said furniture had important things on top of it that we needed. The keys to the snowblower, the electric cord to the snowblower for starting it, a brand new M.2 SSD drive for my computer that I was about to install, and separately, a teeny tiny special screw for the SSD that was in a tiny glassine bag.

For two days we moved and rearranged furniture and steam cleaned the carpets. Then we started looking for the things we needed. For a week and a half we searched the house and the building next door. Some of my computer equipment had been moved next door so I thought that the SSD and screw for installing it might be mixed in with that stuff, but no luck.

We searched the two junk drawers, the one in the kitchen and the one in the office desk but there was nothing. I remembered that I had put all those things in safe places that I wouldn’t forget where they were.

Eventually, after ten days I found the screw, the SSD and the keys to the snowblower. I had placed them on my second keyboard under my desk so I would find them. Only problem was that I hadn’t used that computer the entire time so I never slid the keyboard shelf out to use the keyboard.

The electric cord was hiding in plain sight on the key hooks on the wall by the entrance where we keep our keys.

Had I just chucked everything in one of the junk drawers we would have found them the first day we went looking.

Have you lost or mislaid something and found it days, weeks or months later, or perhaps never at all?
