Newfoundland Regiment unveiled as newest QMJHL team

The Quebec Maritimes Junior Hockey League’s newest franchise will be known as the Newfoundland Regiment.

Officials with the team unveiled the name and logo during a news conference in St. John’s on Thursday.

The name is inspired by the storied history of the Royal Newfoundland Regiment, which is one of Canada’s oldest.

“The name Newfoundland Regiment not only pays homage to the incredible legacy left by these brave soldiers but also embodies the values of courage, unity and resilience,” President Glenn Stanford said in a news release.

“We’re excited to bring these qualities to the ice and share them with our fans and community for generations to come.”

Officials announced in December that the Acadie-Bathurst Titan had been sold and would be relocating to St. John’s.

The new team will be up and running in time for the 2025-26 QMJHL season.
