I saw a snake over the weekend. I was hoping to get a picture, but by the time I had gotten my phone out of my pocket it had taken off into the bushes. But it was a pretty good looking snake. At least, I thought so.
There are a lot of people I know how aren’t snake people. I know some of those people. The sight of a snake makes them run. Either away from the snake, or to grab something and attack the snake. Both of which probably makes the snake wonder what the heck is wrong with us humans.
Thankfully, we live in a place that does not have harmful snakes. Our snakes like to eat things like bugs and rodents, which puts them on my nice list. And they don’t tend to want to hang out with us. In fact, they tend to stay away as much as possible. Possibly because some people seem very anti-snake.
I like snakes. My favourites are probably the little ring necked snakes, but that’s because they tend to be rather small, only about a foot long, which, to me, makes them kind of cute.
The one I saw on the weekend I believe was a ribbon snake. I believe the ribbon snake is officially considered threatened as a species, so it was nice to see one, even just for a moment.
Hopefully, this one will find another of it’s kind and make more little ribbon snakes. If they’re going to eat bugs, they are welcome to my neighbourhood any time.
Although it’s been a while since I’ve seen one around. In the past, I would be likely to see several over the course of a summer. Now, not so much. I know some people don’t like them, but we could stand a few more of them around.
