No Canada Day Celebrations In Clark’s Harbour This Year

The Town of Clark’s Harbour has announced their annual Canada Day celebrations are cancelled for this year.

Mayor Leigh Stoddard says they waited but they finally had to make a decision.

“We have to plan for July first and we don’t have any indication that we would be allowed to have that many people here so, in light of that, in light of everything that’s going on with COVID-19, we just decided, like everyone else, we’re going to have to cancel July first for this year.”

He says there are things, like the senior’s tea that can wait for a decision because they don’t take much planning.

“Until we get direction from the Province on what we can and can’t do, then, those things we can cancel later but July first takes a lot of planning and this is the middle of May so, without having an assurance that we can do it, then I guess we’re going to have to cancel.”

Mayor Stoddard says it was an especially hard decision for him.

“It’s going to be very disappointing, especially for me in my last year here as mayor. I’d like to kind of go out with a bang, if you will, but we’re not going to be able to. Everybody’s in the same boat but that’s unfortunate. It’ll be be different, it’ll be the first time I can remember that we haven’t had a parade and a fireworks and the band and the whole kit and kaboodle.”

The Mayor says they are also looking for word on if and how the municipal elections will happen, which are scheduled for October.
