We’re all aware. Gas prices keep rising.
I’m not sure what the excuse is this time. There always is one. None of them every really make sense, at least to me, but there’s not much you can do about it. At the moment , we still need the stuff.
So I googled “how to reduce fuel consumption”. Nothing overly helpful there, either. Maybe a couple reminders of things I tend to do anyway, but that’s about it.
Things like check your tire pressure and keep them properly inflated. I’ve been doing that for quite a while. And I got over my dependence on using the pressure monitor in the vehicle. I don’t have sensors in my winter rims anyway, but I tend to not trust it and check manually on a regular basis.
They also recommend that you drive with the windows closed to cut down on wind resistance. I find this to not be a problem at all. Particularly on days when the temperature involves a minus sign and a couple digits after it.
Don’t carry too much weight in the car is another. Beyond the several pounds of winter gear and a pile of shopping bags I will probably forget to take into a store with me, that’s not much of an issue either.
One site even recommended making sure your gas cap is on tight. Apparently, evaporation can be an issue for some. And since, for many vehicles, not having your gas cap tight can also make your “check engine” light come on, that’s another one I already have covered.
There are others that most of us already know. Don’t break too hard, keep your speed as steady as possible. Idle as little as possible. There was even one that said “avoid rough roads”. Like that’s going to happen around here.
There are things that you can do to reduce fuel consumption. Most of us are probably already doing them. But really, about all we can do is keep trying to use as little as possible while silently cursing those responsible. It might not help much, but it does make us feel a bit better.
