If you receive a text that you’re getting a refund from Nova Scotia Power, don’t get too excited.
It’s a scam.
The text claims the utility has a refund for the customer and asks the recipient to click on a link to access the money.
NSP spokesperson Tiffany Chase these scams have been circulating for sometime.
“It’s circulating across the province. Initial reports came in over a week ago and so we’ve seen this scam persist with a number of reports coming in through social media and our customer centre.”
She says anyone who receives such a text is asked not to click on the links and contact police.
If you’ve received the text and have clicked on the link, you should contact your bank right away.
Chase stresses NSP would not ask customers for personally identifiable information such as their PIN.
