Nova Scotia’s Ellie Black withdraws from Olympics all-around gymnastics final

Breaking gymnastic news for Canada on Wednesday morning at the Tokyo Olympics.

The Canadian Olympic Committee and Gymnastics Canada have announced in a press release Halifax’s Ellie Black will not be competing in the all-around final event in women’s artistic gymnastics that is slated for tomorrow.

The committee says the 25-year-old sprained her ankle during a training session on Tuesday, adding she has now made the difficult decision to withdraw from the all-around event.

Black placed fifth in this event at the Rio Olympics five years ago, which was the highest-ever for a Canadian gymnast.

The COC Chief Sport Officer says they hope she will still be able to compete in the beam final on August 3rd.

She’ll hold a virtual media availability today.
