During a recent meeting of the Canadian Premiers hosted in Nova Scotia, provincial Finance Minister Allan MacMaster says the discussion of the carbon tax was once again a hot topic.
Reflecting on the recent decision from the federal government to remove the tax from heating oil products, MacMaster feels it is another example of how misguided the tax is, “For anyone heating with other sources, like Ontario where they are on 97 percent natural gas which wasn’t made exempt, creating inequality,”.
“The per capita consumption of gasoline hasn’t gone down, especially in provinces like ours where there aren’t many options other than having a car.”
MacMaster’s criticism is similar to that of many other provincial representatives as well as the Conservative’s federal counterparts, however, while explaining the heating oil exemption a few weeks ago Deputy Prime Minister Chrystia Freeland indicated it was going anywhere.
