NS Liberals Choose Zach Churchill As New Leader

Zach Churchill is the new leader of Nova Scotia’s Liberal party.

His win was confirmed at the leadership convention on Saturday.

Churchill got 65 percent of the vote, defeating Preston MLA Angela Simmonds.

In his acceptance speech, he called out the Progressive Conservative government on their promise to fix healthcare.

“It’s been getting drastically worse over the last ten months. There are now 30,000 more people, and up to 90,000 in our province without a family doctor,” says Churchill.

He also pointed to the cost of living, and says the Houston government is refusing to help Nova Scotians.

Churchill replaces Iain Rankin, who served as leader for about a year and a half, and led the party to an election defeat last summer.

He is the first person from Yarmouth to lead a political party in Nova Scotia.
