NS Power Activates Emergency Operations Centre

Scattered power outages in our province this morning.

Nova Scotia Power has activated its Emergency Operations Centre, as another storm passes through the region.

Storm lead Matt Drover says about 400 staff are in the field, and many more are behind the scenes as they get ready to respond.

“This is our seventh storm so far this year, there have been many winter storms. We want people to know that we’re ready for this one just like all the others, and we’re ready to restore your power as quickly and safely as possible,” says Drover.

Drover says if wind gusts exceed 80 kilometres an hour, it’s not safe for their trucks to put their buckets up.

“Based on the forecast, it looks like winds could wrap up this afternoon. We’re hoping the system moves through the province quickly.”

He says they’ve been tracking this system for several days, and they’ve prepared field resources accordingly.
