NS Power trialing variable rate programs

Nova Scotia Power is considering new electricity rate plans, aiming to provide customers with flexibility and potential savings.

These plans, which are currently being trialed and require customers to opt in include peak/off-peak hours in the winter and aim to reduce strain on the grid.

The program’s trial phase which began in November has already filled up, and now any interested applicants are being placed on a waitlist should more spots open up.

Energy supplied under the program is more expensive from November to March during peak hours from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m. and 5 p.m. to 9 p.m., with the remainder of time offering energy at a cheaper rate, below what normal NS Power customers pay.

If the program proves successful, Nova Scotia Power plans to discuss the possibility of making these programs permanent with regulators.

More details on the program including can be found on NSP’s website.
