NSCAD Students Work To Stop Proposed Tuition Fee Hike

NSCAD students are working to stop a proposed tuition fee hike.

If approved by the Board, NSCAD students’ tuition fees will increase to $8,700.00 a year by 2018.

Grace Stratton, spokesperson with the student union says the proposed hike will have a big affect on first year students.

“Students who are in their first year right now and looking at close to $2,000.00 hike by the time they’re in their fourth year,” said Stratton.

NSCAD already has the highest undergraduate tuition fees in the province and the most expensive bachelor of fine arts program in the country.

Stratton says the government’s decision to deregulate tuition fees is could be the resaon.

The Board has postponed the tuition fee vote to an undetermined later date.
