NSHA Shuts Down Many Services Province Wide

The Nova Scotia Health Authority announced today that in order to protect their staff and patients many of their services are being halted.

In an address today Dr. Brendan Carr President and CEO of the NSHA says the moves come as an added step of limiting transmission.

“With acute care, we want to get people out of the buildings where the risk of transmission may be higher due to the volume of people around.”

The cancellations include elective outpatient treatment, non-urgent diagnostic imaging and a postponement of same-day admission and elective surgeries.

Closing services also has the added impact of opening up beds, the NSHA was unable to provide an exact number on how many these moves would free up.

Special exceptions will be made for people who require urgent care or other time-sensitive treatments.
