Opening Night At South Shore Drive Kick Off To A Summer Of Fun

Opening night at the South Shore Drive In was killer. Killer Tomatoes that is.

After a six-year hiatus the drive-in pulled out all the stops and ran its first feature film on Saturday July 4, at the Mill Village Fire Department. The night was a fundraiser for the fire department that included the money raised from ticket and concession sales.

While admittedly campy, Attack of the Killer Tomatoes was chosen as the premier movie because it is a reminder of simpler times.

Organizer Catherine Croft said in a Facebook post that the South Shore Drive In is striving to make the summer fun for everyone, while still being mindful of the present Covid challenges.

“We’re taking it back to a simpler time, when families gathered to lose their troubles by watching the Silver Screen or to giggle at a cartoon. Simple. Good. Retro, even.”

Bill and Carroll Adams, from Bridgewater, said they hadn’t been to a drive-in for 20 years.

“We saw this online and thought what a neat way to raise money for the fire department. It’s a great night and we’re quite happy,” said Bill.

Croft says she was absolutely thrilled to be there supporting her community and neighbours.

“The show is about to start and we’re very excited.”
