The outgoing mayor of Halifax will be the next Lieutenant Governor of Nova Scotia.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced the appointment of Mike Savage to the position on Sunday.

Savage, a former parliamentarian as well, has a long history of serving Nova Scotians.

He was the Member of Parliament for Dartmouth—Cole Harbour for seven years and mayor of Halifax for 12 years.

Trudeau thanked the outgoing Lieutenant Governor, Arthur J. LeBlanc, for his service and years spent in the role.

Savage is expected to continue his work in social inclusion, economic growth, and climate change action.
