High school football is coming to the south shore.
Park View Education Centre will have a football time for the first time this fall.
Athletic Director Dean McDow credits the success of the Seahawks minor program with sparking the interest.
McDow says the issue is once players hit sixteen they ‘age out’ and can no longer play with the minor league team.
“There is no minor program available anywhere in the province for these kids to play full-sided, contact football. So, everybody playing in that age range only really have one option and that’s high school.”
McDow says it’s something students have asked for.
“The introductory players who started Seahawks football when they were young are now coming to Park View as grade ten students next year. Now we do have the numbers that we think can support a football program here at Park View.”
McDow says they have enough players committed to form a team.
He expects training will begin in August.
