I have to say I was shocked when I saw some friends from the west commenting on the closing and/or sale of over 150 parks. Alberta announced that the 20 provincial parks will be closing or partially closing and 164 others will be sold and managed by private companies.
Having spent some time in Alberta, the parks are beautiful and all I could think is “what a shame”. But is that just me? In this day of technology, where many experiences are promoted as “better onscreen”, where VR allows you to ski the Rockies or go rafting through the Grand Canyon from the safety of your living room, do we still need parks?
I know my answer to that question, but what about you? Is this a good way for the government to save money? Should this be a model for other provinces to follow?
I know I would find it sad to see provincial parks closed in Nova Scotia.
