Prince Edward Island is now reporting the highest number of active COVID-19 cases since the pandemic began a year ago.
Chief Medical Officer Dr. Heather Morrison reported one new case today for a total of 22 active cases.
Premier Dennis King says they are still considering their next steps when it comes to opening their borders, “Obviously, we want to be open as soon as we possibly can, as soon as it is safe to do so. That is the fine line we are trying to walk along this. I think every other Atlantic premier is in the same position as I am.”
The Atlantic bubble opened on July 3rd, 2020. Newfoundland and Labrador and Prince Edward Island were the first to depart the bubble on November 23rd, when cases began to rise.
“It’s not normal to be closed off to the extent that we are and we want to do that(reopen) as quickly as possible. We know we have an economy that relies on the transportation of people in and out of our province.”
Premier King says they feel they are close, but we aren’t there yet, “We are a little bit hesitant to throw an exact date out there because COVID is a tangled mystery that just keep biting us from a number of angles.”
