Possible shark sighting at Rissers Beach

Swimmers were asked to leave the water at Rissers Beach for a few hours on Thursday, July 4 after lifeguards received multiple reports of a shark sighting.

At approximately 10:30 a.m. swimmers were asked to leave the water while lifeguards looked to confirm the sighting.

They didn’t see any sharks but monitored the waters for a few hours as a precaution.

Swimmers were allowed to return to the ocean around 1:00 p.m., and there were no further reports of shark sightings after that.

None of the shark tracking apps showed any pings of tracked sharks in that area during that time. However, that doesn’t mean one wasn’t there as only a small percentage of sharks have been GPS tagged.

No details on the type or size of the shark spotted have been released.
