Premier Houston pauses controversial changes to wine industry

The Nova Scotia government will hit pause on its controversial subsidy program targeting the wine industry.

Premier Tim Houston met with producers and growers after industry leaders packed the legislature on Tuesday.

The program was intended to give up to $12 million a year to bottling companies and would allow them to sell wine with grapes grown outside of our province.

Many local wineries felt it would be a devastating blow to their business.

About 1,100 people work in the wine industry in Nova Scotia and pumps $250 million into the economy every year.
