Premier Iain Rankin has revealed he was convicted of impaired driving in 2003.
Rankin called it an extremely poor decision when he was younger and he’s learned from it.
The 38 year-old says he disclosed the charge when he first ran for the Liberals and again when he ran for the party leadership.
Rankin says he faced a similar charge in 2005 and was acquitted.
The premier was asked by a reporter if he thought the DUI would be used against him in an election campaign, and Rankin responded by saying he wanted to tell Nova Scotians all at once.
Rankin added he went public about his past because he was getting questions about it in his riding of Timberlea-Prospect.
