Project Lunenburg Seeing Good Community Engagement

Work continues on Project Lunenburg as the town gears up to seek community input on the Arts and Culture of Lunenburg.

The Town of Lunenburg’s community planning project has been holding public workshops and engagement events over the last few months in hopes of creating a Comprehensive Community Plan, which will help shape Lunenburg in the years to come.

Councillor Matt Risser says the engagement numbers have been great, but the results have only confirmed issues he’s heard about before.

“A lot of the stuff has been confirming suspicions or indications I’ve seen or heard,” he said, “The ‘What We’ve Heard’ reports gel very well essentially with what I’ve heard on the streets since joining council, so there aren’t really any major surprises that I’ve heard.”

Each month, the project focuses on a specific, important topic, giving residents a chance to give their input on issues within Lunenburg.

The project’s next topic is Arts and Culture, with recreation, environment, regional cooperation and economic development to follow.

Risser says following this comprehensive method ensures that all areas are covered, and everyone is given a chance to engage themselves with the project and provide their input.

“We’ve got a steering committee and obviously council is involved, but we’ve been keen from the beginning to say that this isn’t councils plan,” he said.

“This isn’t the committees plan either, this is the community’s plan, and they have been very engaged and very active so far.”

The public engagement portion of the project is scheduled to wrap up in January 2020, For more information on the project, visit explorelunenburg.ca
