‘Prolific offender’ from Yarmouth arrested in Moncton

A Yarmouth man described by Mounties as a “prolific offender” has been arrested in Moncton.

Police said they received a report last Thursday that the wanted man was driving a stolen truck in the city.

Officers found the truck parked on MacKenzie Avenue in Moncton at around 3 p.m. the same day.

“When police approached, the truck attempted to flee the area but was quickly immobilized by police,” RCMP said in a news release.

A 33-year-old man from Yarmouth, a 25-year-old man from Moncton and a 45-year-old woman from Sussex, N.B., were arrested at the scene.

Officers also seized two loaded handguns, two sawed-off shotguns, a one-shot pistol, a rifle, ammunition, and quantities of suspected fentanyl and crystal meth from the truck.

The Yarmouth man has been charged with possessing stolen property over $5,000 and has been remanded into custody pending a court appearance on Feb. 11.

The Sussex woman appeared in court on Friday and was released on conditions and a promise to return to court on Feb. 4.

Meanwhile, the Moncton man was remanded into custody on an unrelated matter. He will appear in court at a later date.
