Province To Fund Trikafta Drug

A drug to help treat those with Cystic Fibrosis is coming to Nova Scotia.

In the legislature last week, former Health and Wellness Minister Zach Churchill said the Liberals were close to approving the Trikafta drug, and since September four other provinces have agreed to fund it.

He asked current Health and Wellness Minister Michelle Thompson for an update.

Thompson said the province will add Trikafta to the provincial formulary by the end of November.

Churchill was pleased to hear the news.

“Very happy to hear that. It’s great work on behalf of both parties,” Churchill said in the legislature.

About 180 people in Nova Scotia live with Cystic Fibrosis.

Cystic Fibrosis Canada has called Trikafta a ‘life-changing’ drug that can treat up to 90 percent of those with the disorder.
